📐 Cómo Calculamos

The laminate calculator uses the following formula:

Floor Area = Length × Width
Board Area = (Board Length × Board Width) / 1,000,000 m²
Boards Needed = ⌈(Floor Area / Board Area) × 1.07⌉
Packs Needed = ⌈Boards Needed / 8 boards per pack⌉
Underlayment = Floor Area
Baseboard = 2 × (Length + Width)

Safety Margin: We add 7% extra boards to account for cutting waste and pattern matching.

Standard Pack: Typical laminate packages contain 8 boards.

About this laminate flooring calculator

This laminate flooring calculator tells you how many boards and packs to buy for a room. Enter the room length and width, plus the size of a single board, and it works out the floor area, divides it by the board area, and adds a 7% waste margin for cutting and pattern matching. It also reflects the underlayment area you need and the perimeter for baseboards.

It suits standard click-lock laminate and engineered boards. For an irregular room, split it into rectangles, calculate each one and add the board counts together.

🧮 Ejemplo de Cálculo

For a 4.5 m × 3.5 m room with 1,380 × 193 mm boards (8 boards per pack):

  • Floor area = 4.5 × 3.5 = 15.75 m²
  • Board area = 1.380 × 0.193 = 0.266 m²
  • Boards before waste = 15.75 ÷ 0.266 ≈ 59
  • With 7% waste = 59 × 1.07 → round up to 64 boards
  • Packs = 64 ÷ 8 = 8 packs

You will also need about 15.75 m² of underlayment and 16 m of baseboard for the perimeter.

💡 Practical tips

  • Buy all packs from the same batch number so colour and finish match exactly.
  • Let boards acclimatise in the room for 48 hours before fitting.
  • Leave an 8–10 mm expansion gap around the edges, hidden later by the baseboard.
  • Keep one or two spare boards from your last pack for future repairs.

Preguntas Frecuentes

Measure the room area in m², then add 5–10% for cutting. This calculator adds 7% and converts the result into whole boards and packs for you.

Most laminate packs contain 8 boards covering roughly 2–2.5 m², but this varies by brand. Check the pack coverage on the label and round packs up.

Yes — underlayment cushions the floor, reduces noise and helps level minor imperfections. You need roughly the same area as the floor itself.

Boards are cut to fit at walls, doorways and around pipes, and offcuts cannot always be reused. The 7% margin covers those cuts and leaves spares.
