The topsoil calculator uses the following formula:
Volume = Area × (Depth / 100) m³
With Compaction = Volume × 1.15 (compaction factor)
Mass = Volume × Bulk Density (1200 kg/m³)
Truck Loads = ⌈Volume / 10m³ per truck⌉
Bulk Density: Typical topsoil has a bulk density of 1200 kg/m³.
Compaction Factor: We use 1.15 to account for settling and compaction after delivery.
